Emotional Regulation Tools

03/06/2024 2:30 PM
Picture this: a camper is struggling to follow instructions and when the counselor attempts to get the camper on task, it leads to an emotional outburst. The counselor wants to calm the camper down, but words simply aren’t making any difference, and the emotional outburst escalates. Now the counselor’s own frustrations and anxiety are building. Emotional regulation tools help emotions move through the body in a more productive, healthy way. These tools can be used with campers to assist during heightened emotions or prevent emotions from escalating. These tools also have the potential to help decrease burnout among staff and promote healthier communication skills.
